Rose Aiken
Rose Aiken (they/them) is an emerging artist working in the Lowbrow / Pop-Surrealist movement. They graduated from Earlham College in 2015 with a BA in Painting and Drawing. Originally from Chicago, Rose is now based in Philadelphia, PA.
Artist Statement
I utilize Dadaist methodology to generate visual noise, from which I develop vibrant, colorful monster designs, juxtaposing vastly different shapes and forms into semi-coherent chimerical creatures. When I paint monsters, I am empowered to warp, melt, and distort the physical world I see around myself. It is often up to the viewer to determine where the creature is – outer space, underground, deep ocean, inside the confines of my skull, everywhere, nowhere. I do not answer the question, "What is it?" as it is for the viewer to determine what they see as they engage with the creature.
